Safety & Compliance Disclaimer

Safety & Compliance Disclaimer Magnolia Antique Door Co.

Understanding What You're Purchasing Magnolia Antique Door Co. specializes in authentic antique and handcrafted doors. Because these are genuine antique items — many over 100 years old — they carry inherent characteristics that modern manufactured products do not. Please read the following carefully before purchasing.

Lead-Based Paint Antique doors manufactured prior to 1978 may have original finishes that contain lead-based paint. Magnolia Antique Door Co. does not strip or test original finishes for lead content unless restoration services are specifically requested and confirmed.

If you intend to sand, strip, or refinish a door yourself, you must follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations for lead paint handling, including the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule. We strongly recommend hiring a certified lead-safe contractor for any refinishing work.

California Proposition 65 Notice: These products may expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. For more information, visit P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Non-Tempered & Decorative Glass Many antique doors contain original glass that is not tempered and does not meet current building code safety standards for impact resistance. Some of our handcrafted doors also incorporate decorative plate glass specifically chosen to preserve an authentic period appearance — this glass is equally non-safety-rated.

Non-tempered glass must be replaced with certified tempered or safety glass before installation in any occupied residential or commercial space. This is not optional — it is required by building codes in virtually all U.S. jurisdictions. The cost and responsibility for glass replacement rests entirely with the buyer.

Building Code & Permit Compliance Antique doors are sold as decorative and architectural items. It is your sole responsibility to determine whether a door meets the building code requirements for your intended application, including but not limited to:

  • Fire rating requirements
  • Egress dimensions
  • Energy code compliance (insulation values / weatherstripping)
  • ADA or accessibility requirements
  • Local permit requirements for door replacement

Magnolia Antique Door Co. makes no representations regarding code compliance for any specific application.

Weight & Structural Requirements Antique solid wood and iron doors are significantly heavier than modern hollow-core doors. Improper framing, inadequate header support, or incorrect hinge selection can result in property damage or injury. Professional installation by a licensed contractor is strongly recommended. Magnolia Antique Door Co. is not responsible for damage resulting from improper installation.
